on why to make a publication of scores - Mette Ingvartsen 17.02.2010

To create an artist initiated documentation of works that are produced within the
performing arts.
To assume to the position and responsibility of making marginal practices visible and
accessible.
To circulate and stimulate discussions within the performing art field and to create the
possibility of letting a larger “audiences” have access to “the making of” performances.
To rearticulate the problem of ephemerality and disappearance in performance.
To develop a more complex understanding of the function of scores. From it being a from
of documentation, information and preservation to it becoming a way of proposing things
for the future.
To invent new forms of scores, by looking at what already exists and continuing from
that point of departure to rethink choreography
To initiate a culture of notating/writing that goes beyond individual effort.
To discover the level of independence of scores and how they can be detached from the
process they derived from. Questioning notions of interpretation and margins of
difference within interpretation.
To investigate if certain scores produce autonomy to the point where they become
artworks in them selves.
To get performance up on a level of discourse that can compete with they other arts
where the culture of publication, interviews, scripts etc are much more elaborate than
within the field of dance.
